Police Explorer

The Vallejo Police Department is recruiting POLICE EXPLORERS.  We are looking for ambitious young men and women who desire a career in law enforcement and are willing to VOLUNTEER their time.

THE POSITION:

A POLICE EXPLORER learns about  law enforcement by riding with uniformed patrol officers and performing other duties exposing them to the various duties of a police career.

EXPLORER TRAINING:

Vallejo Police Explorers receive CPR and First Aid Training, learn to control traffic, operate the police radio and computer systems. They receive classroom training as well as tactical and physical education in relation to the duties of a police officer. They also may be eligible to participate in an annual regional academy.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be enrolled in school and maintain a 2.0 ("C") Grade Point Average.

  • Must not have any felony convictions or be on probation.  All applicant's backgrounds will be reviewed for disqualifying arrests or conduct.

  • Be a Vallejo resident or live in the surrounding area.

  • Be at least 14 years of age and have completed the eighth grade at the time of appointment.

ADVANTAGES TO BEING A VALLEJO EXPLORER:

Police Explorers gain valuable experience that can assist him/her in attaining a career in Law Enforcement. A number of our current officers began their careers as Police Explorers. Explorers enrolled in the Vallejo City Unified School District are eligible to receive 5 elective credits per qualifying semester. Explorers also participate in camping trips, city related events, and fundraising opportunities for the city of Vallejo.
