I am one of three staff who started 2014 with a new job – helping to facilitate a successful second cycle of Participatory Budgeting! Our team of three is also responsible for implementing the 12 projects selected through the first cycle of PB. As we’ve talked to residents at the Farmers Market and other events and landmarks around town, we’ve heard from many about how PB has brought neighbors together, how the process raises up the voices of residents and how people care deeply about creating a better Vallejo. We’ve also heard that implementing the 12 projects from the first cycle is a community priority as the second cycle begins. We couldn’t agree more, and we are focused on bringing the benefits of the PB projects to the community.
We look forward to using this blog and other venues (such as the PB newsletter, Steering Committee agendas and social media) to share our progress.
In the month of January:
- Four of the twelve projects are in active implementation by City staff: the Potholes and Street Repair Project, Light Up Vallejo! Al Lighting Improvement Project, improvements at the Florence Douglas Senior Center and the Camera Pilot project.
- - Contracts are being drafted on two projects: improvements to 12 parks and funding for the VCUSD middle schools’ STEAM Program.
- - Applications are being developed for the Community Gardens Projects.
- - Work plans are being developed for five projects (College Bound, Omega Gym Renovations, Spay Neuter, Street Clean Up, and Business Grants).
Thank you for your support of PB. Feel free to contact us with any questions. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming assembly!
