Participate!

The participatory budgeting process includes five main steps, beginning in February with Budget Assemblies and concluding in October with a public vote.

Volunteers Needed!

PB is a community-led effort that depends on hundreds of volunteers throughout the year. With the Assemblies just around the corner, we need your help to plan meetings, facilitate small group discussions, and most importantly, to spread the word! Click here for volunteer opportunities.

What is a Budget Delegate?

Between the months of March and August, Delegates will go through an orientation and then meet in committees to transform the community’s initial project ideas into full proposals, with support from city departments and agencies.

You can volunteer to serve as a Budget Delegate if you are a resident of Vallejo or its unincorporated areas, or a stakeholder of Vallejo (i.e. you physically work in Vallejo, own a business in Vallejo, attend school in Vallejo, or are parents of children who attend school in Vallejo).

Here's what you'll do as a Budget Delegate:
  • Attend one to two meetings per month from March to August, including a Budget Delegate Orientation in February or March
  • Review community needs and project ideas from across the city
  • Choose and work on a committee that will address the city’s needs (Budget Committees may include, but are not limited to, Transportation, Public Health, Public Safety, Education, Parks, Recreation & Environment, Art & Culture, Housing, Youth)
  • Develop proposals for projects, alongside experts from city departments and agencies
  • Participate in outreach efforts to educate the community about the PB Vote
  • Gain skills and learn about your community and city budgeting
  • Get to know your neighbors and the city
  • Be a community leader and help shape a new type of democracy!

Attend a Project Expo

In September, Budget Delegates will return to the community to present the project proposals that will be on the ballot.

Vote!

In October, Vallejo residents ages 16 and older will vote on their top projects. The proposals with the most votes will be sent to City Council for approval.

Visit our PB VOTE page for details, polling locations, and a peek at the ballot!
