1. Any person who finds apparent lost property is not bound to take charge of it.
2. If the owner is unknown or has not claimed the property, the person finding the property shall, if the property is of the value of one hundred dollars ($100) or more, within a reasonable time report the found property to the Vallejo Police Department.
3. If the found property has an apparent value of $250 or more, the Vallejo Police department will take charge of the property. We will contact you to arrange our receipt of the property.
4. Found property that has an apparent value of less than $250 may be retained by the finder until such property is identified and claimed by its rightful owner. (Exceptions: Any found firearm or other obvious weapon shall be released to the custody of the Vallejo Police Department.)
5. If the apparent value of the property is less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250) and no owner appears and proves his/her ownership of the property within 90 days, the finder may assume ownership of the found property.
6. A listing of found property is available online for 90 days at Vallejopd.com. Rightful owners of lost property should refer to this listing to determine if their lost property has been found. Upon sufficient evidence of ownership, the Vallejo Police Department shall facilitate the return of any found property that was retained by the finder.
7. All found property in the custody of the Vallejo Police Department that has not claimed within 90 days shall be disposed of as provided by law.
