Used Oil Recycling

Properly recycling your motor or cooking oil is extremely important as it can clogs our City’s water systems, damage pipes, and harm the environment when improperly disposed.

It is illegal to throw away used motor oil and filters in the garbage or pour them down the drains. Instead, they must be taken to a certified collection center or collected through Vallejo’s curbside used oil and filter collection service.

Curbside

Residential customers can place used motor or cooking oil next to their carts for pickup on their collection day. Oil jugs are provided to customers free of charge by Recology Vallejo. Call (707) 552-3100 to request a used oil container.

How to Set Out Used Oil & Filters for Curbside Collection:

Proper preparation helps ensure safe and effective recycling of your used motor oil and oil filters.
1. Thoroughly drain your used oil filters before placing them into the oil filter bag.
2. Hang the bag from the neck of your used oil jug
3. Place the oil jug and filter bag next to your garbage container on collection day—not inside it!

Up to two gallons of used oil may be recycled every week. A new oil jug and/or filter bag will be left at the curb for your next oil change.

Drop Off

Limited quantities of motor oil can be dropped off at the Recology Vallejo Materials Recovery Facility located at 2021 Broadway Street, open Thursday through Saturday from 8:00AM to 3:30PM.
