COVID-19 UPDATE: As COVID-19 continues to evolve, the City of Vallejo is doing its part to limit the spread of the virus. Consistent with State and Federal guidance, and to limit potential exposure for employees and customers, City Hall and the Central Permit Center located at 555 Santa Clara Street will be open to the public for limited services between the hours of 9am to 3pm Monday through Thursday (closed to the public on Friday).

ABOUT THE PLANNING DIVISION
The Planning Division's primary functions are Current Planning and Long-Range Planning.
Current Planning includes:
- Implementation of the Zoning Ordinance, which provides the procedures, standards, and regulations for land use decisions.

- Review of development proposals in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
- The processing of applications. The most common types of applications include use permits, site development permits, sign permits, home occupations, and lot line adjustments.
- Enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance
- Providing public information related to development projects
- Historic preservation
- Demographics information
Long-Range Planning includes:
Propel Vallejo, a three year effort (commenced January 2014) to:
- Comprehensively update both the City's General Plan and Zoning Code (the land use policy document and implementation controls required for all California cities and counties - Adopted August 29, 2017);
- Prepare a Specific Plan for Sonoma Boulevard from Curtola Parkway to Redwood Street (Adopted August 29, 2017); and
- Prepare an Environmental Impact Report for all components (Certified on August 29, 2017).

Other Functions of the Division are:
- Supporting the Planning Commission, a seven-member group appointed by the City Council to make decisions or recommendations on land use issues.
- Supporting the Architectural Heritage and Landmarks Commission, a seven-member group appointed by the City Council to guide the preservation of the Architectural Heritage District and the St. Vincent's Hill Historic District.
- Supporting the Design Review Board, a seven-member group appointed by the City Council to promote orderly, harmonious and attractive development within the downtown and waterfront areas.
