Organic Waste

All residents are required to divert their organic materials away from landfill per Senate Bill (SB) 1383. Residents should have at least one 64-gallon organic waste (green) cart as part of their bundled garbage and mixed recycling collection service. Learn more about SB 1383 here.

Organic waste typically falls under one of the following three categories: food scraps, yard or landscaping waste, and food-soiled paper products. These organic materials should NOT be thrown in your garbage (gray) or recycling (blue) carts.

Free Compost Program for Residents

Once materials in your green cart are collected and hauled off, it is sent to a composting facility where it is turned into a nutrient rich compost. This compost, rather than going to waste in a landfill, can be used by farmers and local residents! Residents can pick-up 1 to 2 bags for free at 2021 Broadway Street, while supplies last. Contact Recology Vallejo (707) 552-3110 for availability and pick-up hours.
