COVID 19 FAQ

Welcome to the City of Vallejo's Frequently Asked Questions page.
We will update this page as additional questions arise to include important information related to the worldwide pandemic.

WILL THE CITY BE ENACTING RULES/LAWS TO PROTECT RENTERS AND HOMEOWNERS?

The City Council approved an executive order and the State of California has as well, which applies to the City of Vallejo. Information on that order can be found here: City of Vallejo order, California order

WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THE HOMELESS AND WHAT IS THE TIMELINE?

Vallejo, in collaboration with the City of Benicia and several community partners, granted $224k of CAP Solano JPA funds to shelter homeless and unsheltered residents who are:
1) symptomatic,
2) test positive, or
3) have existing health conditions, which puts them at risk.
These funds will allow the City to place these individuals in local hotels/motels. An additional $200k that the County recently received from the Governor's Office has not yet been allocated. This is an item on the agenda for consideration by the Solano County Board of Supervisors on April 28. The City is hopeful these additional funds will also be considered to support these efforts in Vallejo. The City has already begun the process of sheltering our homeless. View the update to the City Council on April 14 here at 1:55:50.

WHY IS THE SOCIAL DISTANCING BEING "ENCOURAGED" BUT NOT ENFORCED?

Our first priority must be to respond to emergency 9-1-1 calls, robberies, domestic abuse, crime, etc. The City of Vallejo is following up with businesses on a complaint-by-complaint basis to verify whether they are adhering to social distancing protocols outlined by the State of California Governor's Office and the CDC. Vallejo has already begun to help people in making good choices by discouraging large gatherings. The City will continue to follow directives from the Governor's Office and Solano County Public Health.

SHOULD I WEAR A MASK?

It is highly recommended that individuals cover their nose and mouth with a cloth face covering when out in public.

There is no need to wear a face covering when:

  • At home
  • In your car or solely with members of your household

PLEASE NOTE: Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2 years old, as well as anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance. For younger children, parents and caregivers should be supervising the use of cloth face coverings. Parents and caregivers should use their judgement on whether or not a mask can be worn by their children, depending on the child's age and maturity level in understanding the purpose of face coverings and keeping the face coverings on.

For more information on cloth face coverings, please visit the CDC's recommendation on cloth face coverings page.

WHAT IS THE PLAN TO PREVENT LOOTING, ROBBERIES, PERSONAL ROBBERIES OF GROCERIES, AND BURGLARIES SINCE OUR VPD IS UNDERSTAFFED? WHAT IS THE PLAN DURING THIS PANDEMIC?

Our immediate focus is on saving lives and mitigating the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Our plan includes keeping our staff and resources available for in-progress crimes such as the identified in this question. As we move forward, we have a comprehensive plan to increase our staffing levels and service programs. In this plan, we will continue to utilize our crime analyst to deploy police officers in a strategic, data-driven manner. Researching and leveraging the latest sound technology will also be at the cornerstone of our policing strategies, especially as our staffing levels increase. Community support and partnerships are key to the success of all of these endeavors.

HOW CAN THE PUBLIC REPORT A NON-ESSENTIAL BUSINESS THAT IS OPEN? AND WHAT IS THE TYPICAL RESPONSE TIMELINE FOR COMPLAINTS?

If you would like to report a non-essential business that is open, please contact City either via:
Email: [email protected]
Phone: (707) 648-8605.
All complaints are forwarded to our Economic Development department. The ED department researches the business and the complaint, typically, within 24-hours.

IT SEEMS AS THOUGH SOME BUSINESSES ARE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING RECOMMENDATIONS. IS THERE A PLAN IN PLACE TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE AT "ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES” AT ANY GIVEN TIME?

The City is following up with businesses that have been reported as non-compliant. The City then determines whether the business is essential as outlined by the County Health Officer. If the business is found to be essential, the City of Vallejo is taking that opportunity to remind them of safe social distancing practices. Many of Vallejo's businesses are aware of the Health Order and are compliant.

IN REGARDS TO THE RECENTLY RELEASED “SOCIAL DISTANCING SCOREBOARD”, WHICH ANALYZES CELLULAR PHONE DATA TO TRACK MOVEMENT, SOLANO COUNTY IS SHOWING A LOW GRADE COMPARED TO OTHER COUNTIES. WHAT STEPS IS VALLEJO TAKING TO IMPROVE THIS GRADE?

The "grades" data is not indicative of whether residents are abiding by the shelter at home order or not. These "grades" are based on cellular data movement retrieved through apps. The data does not take into account whether any particular County or City has more essential workers than another. Vallejo and Solano County are home to many essential workers and first responders, along with military personnel. Their movement is considered essential and may be the reason Vallejo and Solano County is showing more movement on these social distancing scoreboards.

CAN I OBTAIN A CONCEALED CARRY WEAPON (CCW) PERMIT DURING THIS PANDEMIC?

The Solano County Sheriff's Office handles all CCW permitting within Solano County. They have information specific to obtaining a CCW permit during the Covid-19 crisis and that information can be found here http://www.solanocounty.com/depts/sheriff/pubinfo/weaponslicense.asp
